A hollow among bald-cypress knees in the swamp — a safe place to rest. Cypress, palm and ginkgo leaves are among the commonest Hell Creek fossils, and their shapes tell scientists the climate here was warm and humid, closer to today's Gulf Coast than to Montana. Progress banked.
