- Ruby-throated Hummingbird The only hummingbird that breeds in eastern North America, weighing about as much as a single penny.
- Northern Cardinal Males are bright red all year round, while females are soft brown with red highlights. Cardinals don't migrate — you can spot them in winter snow.
- Blue Jay A loud, intelligent songbird known for burying acorns to eat later — and sometimes forgetting where, which helps oak trees spread.
- American Robin Famous for tilting its head to listen for earthworms moving underground, then yanking them straight out of the lawn.
- Black-capped Chickadee A tiny, curious songbird with a black cap and bib, easy to recognize by its own name in its call: "chick-a-dee-dee-dee."
